The end of smoking in the Navy

The Navy has been lurching towards a totally smoke-free fleet for years. A few ships are totally smoke-free (the Captain of the ship can make that call). But a $70 million fire onboard the USS George Washington will give the Navy the nudge it wants to totally ban smoking on ships (and probably the shore).

Yet another thing I think about when the power goes out

Same topic, really, on older people. How are older people going to operate a cellphone when they are 70? They can't see the display, especially ones that are super snazzy (like an iPhone or any of the PDA phones). Most displays are just awful if you're eyesight isn't perfect. And the keypads are worse, with very little feel to them to tell what key you're on.

Lots and lots of stuff, not just packaging and cellphones are made for people that are 30, not 70...and soon we're going to have an assload of 70 yr olds in this country.

Livin the QLife and Ride to work day

Here are pics from the event that Qualcomm held this morning for Ride to Work Day, a national "event" that tries to get motorcyclists out, riding to work. Qualcomm had a little shindig for us, with a breakfast, a few vendors were there (BMW Motorcycles of San Diego, GP Motorcycles, Motoworld of El Cajon and State Farm Insurance), and a a couple of the dealers were allowing demo rides. I didn't do any demo rides. I was there fairly early (7:10 or so) and it was already a bit busy, as you can see. I think they were expecting approx 70-80 riders for the thing today.
