Some bad mo-fos

This article is about some bad mofos. Hard core. They go onto ships that might be sinking and try and salvage them. This article is about them righting a nearly capsized car carrier near Alaska in 2006.

NHL Pics

this archive of the NHL's "Frozen Moment" pictures is a collection of some killer hockey pics. My current wallpaper is the 4-19-08 one with Draper clearing the pucks off the rail for practice.

Groovin Track

This track is currently featured in the Dockers ads running during the NHL playoffs on Versus. It's California Soul, written by the 5th Dimension...yes, the same ones that wanted you to go Up Up and Away in their beautiful balloon) but covered by Marlena Shaw. The original is almost comical.

But this....if this doesn't get you groovin...visit your local coroner. You ain't breathin...

The Deadliest Catch

A TV show on Discovery that actually garnered them an Emmy. It's about (Alaskan King) crab fishing in the Bering Sea. To describe it as wildly successful is an understatement. The guys that crew the boats, the captains are all minor celebrities now. And, one of the boats has a website where you can buy stuff.

Who knew that cable TV would make stars out of guys fishing for crab? And that a guy who started out as a presenter on QVC (Mike Rowe...look for some of his stuff on Youtube where you KNOW he's hit the mary jane a couple times before coming on stage) is the narrator and has his OWN kickass show, Dirty Jobs.

Red Wings, game 3

I'll just let Captain Picard do my talking.

Ian Fleming

How did Ian Fleming write so well and detailed about Japan? He went there in a 3-day blitz tour.

Old Companies

When I was in Japan, I was quite interested/fascinated in the fact that Mitsukoshi, one of the major department store companies in Japan, was started in 1673. (remember, that's 100 years before the American Revolution), so I've started collecting a list of old companies.

LLoyds of London 1688
Hudson's Bay Co 1670
Kongo Gunmi a company in Japan that builds and maintains temples started around 593.

Beretta 1526 (Italian gun/armsmaker)
Kikkoman (soy sauce) 1630
Sumitomo 1630
Times of London 1788
Bank of NY 1784
Whitechapel Bell Foundry 1570 (they made Big Ben, whose 150th Birthday is 10Apr2008)
