These pics were taken on my way home from work today here in San Diego. The fire is near Palm Springs, approx 100 mi to the north-northeast of here. When I drove to work this morning, I could see the smoke column. At lunch, it was getting closer. When I left, it was like this, and you could smell the smoke.

The wind shifted at night, coming in from the ocean, blowing this away, but it will be back tomorrow, when the winds come from the desert - the Santa Ana winds. 

Are the Republicans commiting suicide?

The Foley scandal is nothing. What has people really pissed off is the Republican's (ie: Bush's) absolute failure to do anything about illegal immigration (some would say that they have been sabotaging enforcement). However, the Republicans are at least...or at least giving the illusion...of doing something. However, if they play stupid games like this with the fence bill, the Republicans will suffer mightily at the ballot box in Nov.

One Line Movie Review

The Departed. One of the best (if not the best) gangster/cop movies. Ever.
