Bush and corporate welfare

Is ethanol a good idea for reducing our dependence on foreign oil or just a bone tossed to "big corn"? The Opinion Journal breaks down the nunmbers...and the results are just what you'd expect.

A visit to the DMZ

What's it like at the DMZ? Read an account of a guy who takes a tour there.

Al Bore and climate change

Never let facts get in the way of a good panic. And never stand up against someone who challenges your religion.

The US, oil consumption and GDP

Next time you hear some hand-wringer complaining about the fact that the US produces 25% of the world's total greenhouse gasses, but only has 5% of the world's population, remember that the US actually produces 25% of the world's total GDP. And that California's GDP is the same as France's. Texas=Canada. and so on.

King Georgie consolidating power

US Attorney Carol Lam (here in San Diego) was the one that got Randy "Duke" Cunningham sent to the joint for (effectively) taking bribes. She's been asked to resign, along with a bunch of other US Attorneys. And what makes this story more scaryis that I actually agree with Sen Dianne Feinstein's remarks here.

Though, I will admit, Feinstein (and other Dems) get no sympathy from me since they voted for the re-authorization of the Patriot Act, in which all of this skulduggery is taking place.

Daylight Savings Time Change

The dates for starting/stopping Daylight Savings Time (in the US) have changed. All of your Windows computers will need an update (look here for the info). If you have a PDA (Palm, PocketPC, etc), check with the manufacturer. Also, check anything else that uses a calendar, as well as making sure your paper calendars have the right date on there!

DST will start at 2am on 11Mar, a few weeks earlier than normal.

French are stupid

No matter how stupid you think Americans are, they definitely don't have a corner on the market. Take this clip from the Frog version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

The question: What orbits the earth? You're smart enough to translate the answers...
The killer part? The audience is stupid, too.
