Nasty crash

This was on the way to work this morning, near my office. The truck ran the light (one guy I talked to said he'd never seen someone run a light that bad before) and the Harley was going on a green when it t-boned the truck and wound up under it. The rider seemed pretty good...no real major injuries. The cops and ambulance got to the accident scene quickly, too!

China and the olympics

We've all seen the Blue Screen of Death from the opening ceremony. And we've all heard about the acrobat that was paralyzed during rehearsals for the opening ceremony.

But have you seen the one about the farmers that were screwed by the Chinese government so that the Olympic village had lush greenery/flowers/etc? Now you have.

I always said that the Chinese had no idea what they were in for...and that they are a bunch of morons that thought they could do anything and get away with it. I guess they forget that when the media leaves China, they can say what they want.

High school jazz ain't dead

Pat Metheny's "Song For Bilbao"...one of his coolest tracks, first the original, from the PMG performance in Warsaw in 1993:

And then Deer Valley HS from Glendale, AZ, getting busy. They nail it. And I know you're digging the call and answer between the sax and the trumpet at 4:45...

School lunch

School lunches (when I was a kid in the Dark Ages) weren't too bad, at least 1st-3rd grade weren't. Or maybe my memories are tainted, what with them being a 6 yr old kid's impression. Nevertheless, I can't remember school lunches being this repulsive

Sapporo Summer Festival

Over 500,000L of beer were consumed this year at the Sapporo Summer Festival, according to this story.

And here is your not-so-humble writer having an Otaru Dark beer at the Sapporo Summer festival a few years ago...

Up and back from Orange County

A wasted trip to Orange County for a waste of time training that I withdrew from. Oh well, BMW did fairly well on milage, note the 34 mpg the computer says I got going to/from the class!

Directions in a parking garage

Ever have a hard time finding your way around a parking garage? A garage in Melbourne has figured out a way to help. Just drive towards the big words "IN" or "DOWN"

Going green to save green

My favorite brewery, Stone Brewing here in San Diego (well, Escondido) has opened their own waste water treatment plant and will eventually be selling the recycled water to water landscaping.
