Detroit, the zoo and racism
The Detroit Zoo is/will be closed. The city of Detroit can't come up with the funding. But when outside funding (the state) came available, one of the geniuses on the city council said this:
"We are not owned by everyone else. Black folks are not owned by white folks anymore"

What actually is going on is that while Detroit would still OWN the zoo, the Detroit Zoological Society would run it. This deal has been in the works for months. Detroit's BLACK mayor, Kwamee Kilpatrick, is for this deal. When Barbara Rose Collins couldn't come up with a valid reason to vote against the package, she pulled the race card which is soooo out of line. Apparently last night the City Council (which has to consistently be the most inept, contentious, stupid city council on the planet) had second thoughts after a HUGE outroar by everyone in Detroit and the metro region. The city council thinks they can run things better than anyone else (definitely not true) and it doesn't matter that they don't have any money and the State won't give Detroit any money for the zoo. But the State WILL give it to the DZS!
